Potato Seed
Apart from Patata Naxou P.G.I., the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Naxos also produces Certified Potato Seed, which it distributes throughout Greece for planting in July and August.
This is the production process of certified Potato Seed and Naxos Potato P.G.I.
January: Import of basic potato seeds from the Netherlands and France.
February: Distribution of basic potato seeds to the producers of E.A.S. Naxos and planting.
March to June: Checking of the plantations by the agronomists of E.A.S. Naxos, provision of advice to producers and selection of suitable plots.
July: Collection, standardization, certification and germination of potato seeds in the Potato Packing Plant of E.A.S. Naxos, packaging in 25 kg bags and distribution of the product throughout Greece.
October: The agronomists of E.A.S. Naxos visit the plots in which the producers intend to plant potato seed or potato for food during the next growing season.
